We have put together some info and tips and what to look for when booking your accommodation online so have a read and find out how to get those amazing villa photos on your hard earned holiday.

Bedroom/living areas/bathroom
  • Look for something with light and airy bedrooms. There is nothing worse than trying to get dressed in a dimly lit room. White or light painted walls help.
  • If the photo is taken on a wide lens camera then the room is going to be small. They have taken it on this type of lens because it is the only way to fit all of the room into one shot.
  • White bed linen is a MUST! There's just something about it that makes you feel like you're living that luxe life.
  • Air conditioning is a 100% MUST. If you are splurging on a villa you would expect it to have AC.

Pool area
  • Large pools with blue tiles look the best in photos because the water looks so crisp.
  • If it's a private pool within a villa, we prefer to choose something that has a larger sun baking area. Something that gets the sun for most of the day (not too closed in by the walls of the villa itself).
  • Minimal gardens are best because it reduces the amount of mosquitoes and they just don't look as messy.
  • Comfortable sun lounges and provided beach towels.
  • Hire a larger villa but request to keep some of the bedrooms locked to get it at a cheaper price. We hired a 4 bedroom villa at the price of a 2 bedroom villa and still got the full use of the large pool and living areas. Often the smaller 1 and 2 bedroom villas have a small pool with high walls enclosing the area leaving you with only a small window of sunshine time.

Kitchen/bar
  • A large fridge so you can keep bottles of cold water, juice and soft drink at hand. Let's not forget the beer too ;)
  • If the kitchen and bar areas are outside a ceiling fan is definitely a good time but not necessary. Adequate seating and bench top space to prepare delicious fruit platters and spreads.

Location
  • We hire a scooter in Bali or Thailand so location isn't a huge issue for us, however it is nice to be within walking distance to restaurants and bars.
  • If you don't want to hire a scooter make sure you are within walking distance to the 'busy strip' or some restaurants.
  • There are plenty of cabs/transport so make use of this but don't get caught paying too much!
  • Make use of your free transfers.

Extra tips
  • Don't limit your search preferences to '1 Bedroom' because quite often you can hire a 3 or 4 bedroom villa as a 1 bedroom and have the other bedrooms locked. This gives you an amazing open plan pool and living area with plenty of sun light without breaking the budget. Try contacting the villa owner direct if you can.
  • ALWAYS TRIP ADVISOR! I know this seems like an obvious tip, but so many people don't trip advisor or read reviews on their villa and it can potentially ruin your holiday.
  • A daily butler or cleaning service is 100% necessary and usually included but best to check up on this when booking your villa.
  • Daily breakfast may or may not be included in your price. Best to check up on this. If it is not included that doesn't really matter, go to a different cafe or restaurant every morning!
  • Pick a budget and stick to it! There are literally thousands of villas and you will never EVER be able to look at them all, you are bound to find something that is within your price range if you search properly.
  • If budget is an issue, try finding a nice pool access room from a quiet hotel!
